The Race Engineer profession requires a wide, in-depth knowledge of all the technical areas which are fundamental to racing car design, development and manufacture.

Vehicle dynamics, chassis design technology, suspension kinematics, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, engine, electronics, tyres, data analysis are essential to the preparation of the vehicle prior to competition use. This knowledge is fundamental also to give proper feedback to the designers in order to improve the car performance.    

The global car racing industry is highly competitive and requires young engineers who are specially trained to play and immediate, productive and efficient role in their team. It falls within Quattroruote’s mission to capitalize its expertise and authority to benefit of young generations. Quattroruote Academy can prepare young engineers for a highly qualified career.

The Master

The program addresses young international graduates with a degree in mechanical, electronical, aeronautical  engineering with a strong passion for motorsport and keen to pursue a career in the exciting world of car racing.

Within the educational program, young engineers will join a professional team for a racing season, in order to train and experiment what they have learnt in class

and gain practical experience on the field.

Developed in collaboration with leading lecturers from the world of motorsport and the support of motorsport companies, this program will open the doors of this highly competitive profession.

The course consists of 120 hours of lesson and will include a full day on a circuit, joining a racing team, that will show in practice how a racing car is managed. Lessons will be followed by Q&A sessions.
Maximum 15 young graduates from mechanical, electronical, aeronautical engineering
Giancarlo Bruno (1957) was born in the province of Salerno (Italy) and obtained his mechanical engineering degree in Naples. After working with Alfa Romeo (1984-1999), he was race engineer for Formula Alfa Boxer, Formula Opel Lotus, Formula 3 (1987-1989).

In the early Nineties he was called by Scuderia Italia to serve as race engineer in Formula 1.

He subsequently moved to DTM and European GT competitions. In 2009 he won world  WTCC championship  with Gabriele Tarquini at Seat Sport. In 2017 he is behind Roberto Colciago’s Honda Civic in TCR.

He is also a popular F1 commentator for the Italian television.
The fee includes the academic program, experience in a sports team during a racing season.
Lessons will be taught in English.
Will the taught lessons be enough to make a good impact on the field?
Definitely, top quality information will be delivered by highly qualified professionals. However, keep in mind that this job is done and redone at the end of each racing weekend, you need creativity and an open mind, along with a solid basis. The slightest change in asphalt temperature may dramatically change the car’s behavior and demand that you reconsider everything.

Why should you start your career in the so called «minor categories»?

Everyone dreams of starting in F1, but that’s the level with the highest sophistication and specialization. In other categories you get a broader technical experience, you learn to have control over the whole, so solidly build on the next step.

What is the difference between a race engineer and a car engineer?
His job is to best implement what’s been designed and manufactured by the car engineer. And to deliver the proper information needed to improve the car’s performance.

Does the job require steady nerves?
A correct balance between adrenaline and self-control is mandatory, you must know perfectly well what you are doing at all times, otherwise adreline turns into anxiety, and then you are in trouble.

How important is practical experience?
No doubt you need to build experience in this field, and an experience made abroad makes you learn faster.
